India - Nuances all around

As someone who grew up in India and now lives in the USA, I've had the unique experience of seeing business opportunities from both perspectives. India’s diversity and rapid growth make it an exciting place to do business, but understanding the cultural nuances is key.

Regional Differences: North vs. South India

- North India: Creating business opportunitues is all about building relationships. Trust and personal connections are paramount, and while Hindi is widely spoken, English is commonly used in business.

- South India: In the South, especially in tech hubs like Bengaluru and Chennai, business is more direct and professional in amore western sense. English is prevalent, and there’s a strong emphasis on education and technical expertise.

Rural vs. Urban India

- Urban India: Cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru are buzzing with energy and global connections. The middle class is growing rapidly, creating vast opportunities for businesses.

- Rural India: While rural areas may seem traditional, they’re evolving fast, with significant improvements in infrastructure. Understanding local languages and customs can open up these emerging markets. This would be the area of most untapped resources I can think of.

Key Strengths to Leverage

- Skilled Labor Force: India’s young and technically skilled workforce is a powerhouse, especially in IT and engineering.

- Reshoring of Talent: I’ve seen many Western-trained scientists and engineers returning to India, bringing with them global expertise and fresh perspectives. They are also bringing back a global network of professional backers.

- English Proficiency: With so many English speakers, India is perfectly positioned for international business.

Having lived in both India and the USA, I see India as a land full of opportunities. Whether it’s navigating regional differences, engaging with the rapidly growing middle class, or tapping into the reshoring of talent, India offers a wealth of possibilities.
